First Aid at Work

People at work can suffer injury or sudden illness. It is important that employers have made arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. This course covers all of the necessary practical skills needed to fulfill the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements to become a qualified first aider in the workplace. We have experienced tutors many of whom have dealt with real incidents as front line paramedics so you will receive that added insight

Who should attend?

Nominated workplace first aiders, or anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to first aid.

We are confident that our directed learning will give you the knowledge and confidence to deal with a first aid emergency in the workplace.

Course content

  • Diabetes – Including dealing with low and high blood sugar
  • Eye injuries
  • Simple record keeping
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Accidents and illness
  • Fractures
  • Shock
  • Cardiac conditions, including heart attacks and angina
  • Introduction to first aid
  • Control of haemorrhage - Bleeding
  • Seizures
  • Poisoning
  • Asthma
  • Burns and scalds
  • Choking
  • Anaphylaxis - Severe allergic reaction
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Using a first aid kit

Course duration and assessment

The course featured is 3 days in length, including a formal assessment on the final day. Successful completion will result in the candidate receiving a HSE approved First Aid at Work certificate.
